The story, the character, the creators, country of origin.
Bouba is a Japanese animated series created by Nippon Animation and directed by Fumio Kurokawa. First broadcast in Japan in 1977, it arrived in France in 1981 on FR3. The work is adapted from the book Monarch, The Big Bear of Tallac by Ernest Thompson Seton.
The story takes place in the late 19th century in the Sierra Nevada. After the accidental death of their mother, Amandine, the little bear cub Bouba and his sister Frisquette are taken in by Moy, a young Native American boy. Together, they experience many adventures while trying to escape the dangers of the mountains and the greed of an unscrupulous trapper.
Bouba is a fearless, stubborn, and sometimes feisty brown bear cub. Despite his impetuous nature, he demonstrates great loyalty to his friend Moy. Protective of his sister Frisquette, he gradually learns the laws of nature to become, in adulthood, the true king of the mountain.
