San Ku Kai is a Japanese science fiction series created by Shōtarō Ishinomori and produced by Toei Animation. Originally broadcast in Japan between 1978 and 1979, it captivated a generation in France when it aired on Antenne 2 starting in September 1979.

The plot follows the fierce struggle of the people of the twelfth galaxy against the Stressos Empire, cruel invaders led by Golem XIII. Aboard the spaceship San Ku Kai, a small resistance movement organizes to liberate the occupied planets and restore peace to the universe.

Ayato, also known as the Phantom, is a headstrong 17-year-old pilot trained in martial arts. Courageous and determined, he doesn't hesitate to brave danger to fight the Stressos' oppression, using his fighting skills to become a symbol of the galactic resistance.
